March 25,2010: 10 Lessons from the Recession

Learning money savings business tips in this economy was the perfect agenda topic for the March Women of Wit and Wisdom dinner meeting. Gene Marks, Philadelphia Business Journal columnist, shared a laundry list of unique web site links and software packages that could help just about any business owner run their operation more efficiently. Gene’s recommendations and knowledge about the topic provided an interactive program that left all of our WWW excited to get home and begin to explore the business possibilities on their own!

January 28, 2010: Taboos about Money

January's event featured Maggie Baker, who spoke on the topic of money - how the very topic is taboo in our society. We learned that our childhood experiences have alot to do with shaping our perceptions of money, and understanding what makes us spenders or savers. She also gave us tips on how to cope with worrying about money, as well as exercises to take home with us that can help us change our attitudes about money. After the woes of 2009, this was a well-needed workshop.

December 17, 2009: Bo Nen Kai

Our Bo Nen Kai (Forget Year Party) was so much fun. Each of us set goals for 2010 - things we wanted to leave behind, bring with us, and ignite in the new year. There's something about a formal setting that helps to bring these goals to life, and makes them more official. As we shared our new year's goals, there was some advice passed along by all. A wonderful way to start the new year.

October 22, 2009: Linked In

Our WWW Friends who were able to make our October dinner event, featuring Ed Callahan on the topic of LinkedIn, were afforded a wonderful interative session chock full of business development ideas!  Ed's presentation style allowed attendees to ask very specific questions about LinkedIn and also leave the meeting with several easy to apply new techniques.

September 25, 2009: Speed Networking

The WWW enjoyed yet another fun and rewarding “Speed Networking” event.  Attendees were able to meet and really get to know a variety of fabulous Women!

A sample of areas of expertise included: branding, financial planner, insurance agent, graphic designer, “Green Business” management, writer & producer, leadership consultant, transportation and parking consultant, virtual administrator, an independent meeting planner, and sales rep from the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau.

April 23, 2009: We’re Talking…So How Come We’re Not Communicating? Understanding Personality Styles through DiSC

Pat Tedesco, President of Executive Training Group, captivated our Women of Wit and Wisdom with practical insight to communication techniques that would lead to more effective communications with clients, employees, family members, and co-workers! Pat’s relaxed style and extensive knowledge on individual communication styles provided an engaging, practical, and interactive session that held attendees long past the scheduled meeting’s end time! (A sure sign that everyone enjoyed the program.) If you missed the session, you may never be sure if your communication style is Dominant, Influence, Steadiness, or Conscientiousness (DISC). You’ll need to connect with Pat directly to learn more! (Pat can be contacted at execgroup@aol.com)

March 25, 2009: Supernetworking Event

Wow! Imagine the networking and the noise level (!)at the Pyramid Club with well over 100 professional women from a multitude of organizations. There were many opportunities to meet new people and catch up with old acquaintences. The Women of Wit and Widsom were well respresented in the crowd.

February 26, 2009: 'Open Mic Night' – Meeting Summary

The Women of Wit and Wisdom continue to feed each other only positive energy when discussing business topics. A packed room of very diverse business women joined a spirited roundtable discussion, sharing ideas and seeking advice on creative ideas associated with conducting business in this current crazy economy.

Referrals, suggestions, brainstorming, and general concern and care were all ingredients that resulted in a very successful meeting. If you have been reading about our WWW events and haven’t yet taken the plunge, you may find that you are missing out on a wonderful dose of positive business energy.

Jan 22, 2009

The Women of Wit and Wisdom were once again WOWED by Lynn Kremer’s presentation focused on demonstrating how to use the Philadelphia Business Journal  to enhance their business development goals.  Lynn walked attendees through the various sections of the paper and provided creative ideas on how to use each and every portion of this very valuable business tool.

Please note that the WWW would like to thank Lynn and the Philadelphia Business Journal for their ongoing support, as demonstrated by the routine listing of our WWW events on the PBJ’s online networking postings.  This online posting has helped the WWW reach an entirely new circle of smart, fun women.

The January meeting continued to draw a pleasant combination of first time attendees and women who have enjoyed our meeting in the past.

December 11, 2008

Our year end Bo-Nen-Kai was a great hit and will probably return as an annual event. A three part ritual, members shared what they wanted to keep in their life for the coming year, shredded what they wanted to leave behind them, and lit candles for what they want to bring into their life in the new year. A solemn and, at the same time raucous, event that left us singing a variety of songs from "This Little Light of Mine" ... to ... "Come on Baby Light My Fire."

November 19, 2008

Bombarded with negative media messaging on the jittery stock market and unstable economy, the WWW decided to focus their November meeting on sharing ideas surrounding how to stay positive when the people that you meet want to talk about the negative.  The group found energy, inspiration, and strength from the many creative ideas that the our ladies conjured up and shared.

 A few ideas included:

  • Turn off the news!
  • When a person you meet at a networking event brings up the subject of the negative economy, politely change the subject letting the person know that you prefer to focus on what is going right in your life.
  • Be sure to put yourself in situations where you will be surrounded with people that know how to be positive!
  • Go exercise – clear your head.

In summary, it was concluded that while we can’t control the press, we can control our own mental outlook and mind-set!

October 23, 2008

Are you ‘Networking’, or ‘Not Working?’ – How to Network & Get Results -  Chuck Polin, President of Training Resource Group didn’t disappoint the October 23rd meeting attendees. Chuck shared practical and creative ideas to help our smart Women of Wit and Wisdom feel more comfortable walking into a room of strangers.  Ideas on how to gracefully enter and exit a networking conversation were also reviewed.

Most of all, we heard about the value of our time and the danger in giving away free consulting services or staying too long at a networking event that isn’t a good fit. As you can see, Chuck was a hit.  Please be sure to watch our event calendar for a potential return visit from this proven speaker!

June 26, 2008

Networking on Steroids - It's Power Networking!

We had a great group for our Power Networking Event. This is similar to "speed dating," - each person gets 2 minutes, 1-on-1 with every attendee to tell them about their business. Our group was energetic and enthusiastic about meeting fellow WWW's. We all left with a stack of business cards and many new prospects for business.

May 21, 2008:

Be An Active Participant In Your Life

Dr. Joanna Carmichael was our speaker for WWW's 5/21 dinner. She discussed the principles of the book, The Secret, and how we can encourage positive change to come into our lives, as well as getting rid of things (and people!) in our lives that we don't want. We discussed methods we can use to get rid of the endless "mind chatter" that can clutter our thoughts and how to think more positively. We discussed how we need to listen to our body when it sends us warning signals. We learned to set "realistic" goals that we know and believe we can attain. The attendees also participated with personal stories and thoughts, which made this event a memorable and enjoyable one.

April 24, 2008: Lori Gordon

Thanks to all who attended our event with our guest speaker, Lori Gordon, a principal of the Mand Marblestone Group, LLC. Lori talked to a full house about ways to stay in control of the client situation. Everybody in the room could relate to at least one of her "five, no fail methods". It was not only interesting but thought provoking and inspired a lot of conversation after the official event. Thank you Lori!

February 28, 2008: Chuck Polin

Thanks to all who attended our event (men and women) with our guest speaker, Chuck Polin, president of Sandler Sales Institute. Chuck had some valuable insight about how have more effective meetings with prospects. We learned more about why people buy from others, ways to discuss price with a prospect, tips to get past the “gatekeeper,” and how important it is to just – listen -  instead of talk. It was an educational night with a terrific speaker.

Jan. 24, 2008: Philadelphia Business Journal

A record crowd turned out to here Lyn Kremer and Sections Editor, Sonja Sherwood to discover how to increase sales and further your career by using the Philadelphia Business Journal effectively and efficiently. It was an informative night, filled with new ideas on how to get business from the news-at-hand.

September 11, 2007: Early Bird Breakfast

A very small crowd attended the September 11th networking breakfast. Not really a big surprise based on the rainy weather and the sad date.

While the crowd was smaller than normal, attendees agreed that this was probably one of the most effective networking events they've recently attended!  Referral names were flying across the table in a very positive fashion!  The breakfast meeting also included a male guest who was wonderful, young, bright, and very willing to share contacts.  We hope to see YOU at our next breakfast meeting scheduled for October 9th at 8:00 a.m

August 14, 2007: Early Bird Breakfast

Another successful breakfast event --thirteen interesting women came to our third breakfast meeting. The conversation continued long after our official stopping point at 9 AM.

We each told our elevator story and then shared some tidbit of information about ourselves. That was the most interesting part and what sets the Women of Wit and Wisdom apart.

Among the things that people shared were passions like rock climbing (to conquer a fear of heights!), bungee jumping, and dragon boating. In additional to our "business" personnas we had a minister, a spiritual counselor, and an innkeeper. And homes where dogs and cats co-existed and a relationship that really caught "fire." Come to our next event to find out more ...

July 26. 2007: Power Networking – Dinner, Cocktails & Networking

What fun! An opportunity to do some in depth networking with other women of wit and wisdom. It's like "speed dating" but talking to someone you really want to get to know!

Fourteen of us had dinner in the Board Room at the offices of Fernley and Fernley (thank you Sue for arranging for us to use such a great room!) Then we paired off and each got two minutes to talk about our business, or whatever topic struck our fancy!

Sometimes it was hard to get people to stop talking but Sue kept us moving around the table by ringing the chime. We managed to do at least eight rounds before our voices gave out and we had to go home.

July 18, July 2007: "Reincarnation & Past Life Regression" with Dr. Joanna Carmichael

The Past Life Regression Therapy session with Dr. Joanna Carmichael went very well. We had a packed room in Cherry Hill, with lots of business women who were curious to learn more about this new way of healing.

Dr. Carmichael gave a brief lecture about her background and the history of Past Life Regression and it's founder, Dr. Brian Weiss. She then conducted a group hypnosis session. Afterwards, some shared their individual experiences. Many walked away with a new sense of calm and relaxation, and a new outlook.

"I thought this session was TERRIFIC!! I’d highly recommend it to anyone who is even slightly interested in expanding their perspective and approach to understanding life’s many puzzles."
